As originally conceived, the internet was designed to connect networks of machines to share information, without considering the identity of a person or organization using it. With time, consumers have grown dually frustrated over needing separate logins and profiles for each vendor they visit, while simultaneously losing privacy when sharing all their information. Enter SSI, which allows for a single, trusted identifier to be used across the board for all vendors. Its awareness and adoption has recently accelerated, and continues to grow. For hospitality & travel, SSI is a once-in-20-years technology development that has potential to be a win/win/win, where travel providers, travel intermediaries and travelers can all benefit.
This article is part of a content series that explores some of the most significant technology-driven trends that will influence travel distribution in 2022 and beyond.
