Phocuswright's Research Project Manager is responsible for supporting and project managing Phocuswright's research projects, including custom, speaking, syndicated and special project engagements. The Project Manager will be the day-to-day contact for clients of these product lines, as well as support the overall operational needs of the research department. This position will report to the Director, Custom Engagements.

Research Project Manager

Job Responsibilities

Research Project Management

  • Work with Director, Custom Engagements on all new and revised research projects to ensure cohesive coordination between the research, product sales, marketing and accounting departments.
  • Manage engagements from project kick-off through final publication/delivery.
  • Be main client liaison on assigned projects.
  • Create project management assets for clients of custom and special project research as needed, including timelines, budgets and kick-off decks.
  • Gain expertise in research to make appropriate recommendations to customers and respond to their queries.
  • Identify 'scope creep' and work with Director, Custom Engagements to manage client expectations.
  • Ensure client deliverables are provided in a timely manner.
  • Track and update project status for all assigned projects in a timely manner to ensure transparency and visibility for all internal stakeholders.
  • Work directly with analyst and production team to ensure all project milestones are met. Identify and flag any delays and potential ramifications as early as possible.
  • Track project expenses and ensure projects are delivered within budget.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Speaking Engagement Management

  • Work with Director, Custom Engagements for all speaking engagements to ensure cohesive coordination between the research, product sales, marketing and accounting departments.
  • Manage and oversee all speaking engagements from engagement kick-off through final delivery with help from the Director, Custom Engagements.
  • Create project management assets for clients of speaking engagements as needed, including timelines, budgets, logistics and other necessary tasks.
  • Be main client liaison for assigned speaking engagements, ensuring client is notified of status on a regular basis and project is done within scope.
  • Ensure client deliverables are provided in a timely manner.
  • Manage tracking and keep up to date for all assigned engagements to ensure transparency and visibility for internal stakeholders.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Research Operations Support

  • Work with the Director, Custom Engagements, and NYC Office Manager to ensure that the research department is operating efficiently for all members.
  • Assist in developing an onboarding process for all new research hires.
  • Manage the required system access for any software for all research members.
  • Assist in contracting external analysts as needed, on an annual basis or project-by-project basis.
  • Maintain relationships with our outside vendors and external analysts to ensure that we keep working with the best and brightest in the industry.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Quickly become proficient in Phocuswright back-office processes and procedures.
  • Excellent communication and organization skills, a passion for helping clients, and an understanding or desire to understand the travel, tourism and hospitality marketplace trends.
  • Project management expertise in order to work cohesively with the research, sales and marketing teams for product rollouts, enhancements and strategies.
  • Ability to maintain high level of client satisfaction while ensuring that projects are delivered within budget and within expected timeframe.
  • By soliciting, gathering and synthesizing client feedback, the Research Project Manager becomes an advocate and champion for our clients. This role liaises with the company's research, sales and marketing teams on product enhancements, new directions and additional/lost revenue opportunities.

Related Work Experience

  • Minimum 3 years' experience in account management and/or project management.
  • Experience in travel industry and research is a plus.

Formal Education or Equivalent

  • College degree is required.
