The powers of comparison of online travel agency (OTA) apps are a draw for mobile travel shoppers. For suppliers, though, in-trip services are a potent hook for app downloads. Phocuswright's research report The Mobile Travel Landscape 2016 covers the mobile experience across the key markets of France, Germany, U.K., U.S. and China, and includes data on how travelers are using mobile throughout the trip life cycle.  

Once a supplier app is downloaded, it has the potential to influence the trip life cycle, foster loyalty and capture bookings the next time around.

In the U.S. travel market, for example, where OTAs dominate mobile shopping and booking, the top travel app is an airline (American Airlines), not an OTA.
