Summary
Japan, which recorded its first case of coronavirus on January 16, was among the first countries to be impacted by the pandemic. But its economy, the third largest in the world, was heading for recession even before the COVID-19 crisis, due in part to slowing exports and a shrinking and aging population. Though the country's travel and tourism industry had become a significant growth engine for the otherwise fragile Japanese economy, it was among the first sectors to be impacted by the spread of the virus. This report presents a high-level overview of the Japan travel market in 2020, including the impact of the pandemic on major players, key segment analysis, and sizing and projections through 2020.
