Summary
Before it had an official name, or was even designated as an international health crisis, COVID-19 ravaged the Chinese city of Wuhan. The coronavirus brought travel in China to a near halt in late January 2020, and many cities and provinces stayed in lockdown for two months or longer. Travel increased with the lifting of local restrictions in March and April, and the government introduced discounting initiatives to stoke demand for travel as the public health situation improved. However, these efforts can only bring travel demand so far while the threat of the virus and economic uncertainty loom. This Phocuswright travel research report presents a high-level overview of the China travel market in 2020, including the impact of the pandemic on major players, key segment analysis, and sizing and projections through 2020.
