.Steve Barnhart is CEO and president of Orbitz Worldwide Inc. (NYSE:OWW). Barnhart’s responsibilities include overseeing Orbitz Worldwide’s global portfolio of online travel brands, which includes Orbitz and CheapTickets in the Americas, ebookers in Europe and HotelClub.com and RatesToGo.com based in Asia Pacific with operations worldwide. Barnhart is also a director on the board of Orbitz Worldwide Inc.
Barnhart joined Orbitz, Inc. in May 2003 and was a key member of the finance team that took the start-up public at the end of 2003. Following the November 2004 acquisition of Orbitz Inc. by Cendant Corporation, he led the financial integration with Cendant’s other online travel brands. During this period, Barnhart was appointed as the U.S. consumer travel unit’s chief financial officer within Cendant’s Travel Distribution Services business (TDS). In early 2006 he added responsibility for TDS’s international consumer travel business.
Cendant’s TDS division was renamed Travelport in 2006, and re-organized into three divisions, Orbitz Worldwide, Galileo and GTA. Travelport was acquired by an affiliate of the Blackstone Group in August 2006. In September 2006, Travelport Inc. appointed Barnhart as president of Orbitz Worldwide, in addition to his duties as chief financial officer. In early 2007 he was named CEO and president of Orbitz Worldwide, and led the company’s initial public offering, which was completed in July 2007.
Prior to joining Orbitz, Barnhart held various finance positions over a 13-year period with PepsiCo, its Pepsi-Cola and Frito-Lay subsidiaries, and the Pepsi Bottling Group. In his final role Barnhart was Director of Finance for a division of the Pepsi Bottling Group with over $1B in revenue and 5000+ employees.
Barnhart earned his MBA. in finance and bachelor’s in economics from the University of Chicago.
