HOW TO SEARCH
This is your one page guide with detailed information on how to get the most out of the PhoCusWright Library search interface.

There are a variety of ways to search PhoCusWright research. Subscribers and guests have the same search functionality; however, you must be a subscriber to read the articles and reports, with the exception of free content such as PhoCusWright's FYI and blog content. Non-subscribers will only be able to access abstracts for the articles as well as the free content.

If your company has a subscription and you are a seatholder, you must log in (upper right corner of the Web page) to access your subscription content. If your company does not have a subscription for the article(s) you are interested in, some articles are available for individual purchase (noted with the BUY NOW button). Otherwise, for more subscription information, review the subscription overview or contact PhoCusWright Sales at +1 860 350-4084 x501.

WHAT IS A TAG CLOUD? Definition from Wikipedia: A tag cloud (or weighted list in visual design) can be used as a visual depiction of content tags used on a Web site. Often, more frequently used tags are depicted in a larger font or otherwise emphasized, while the displayed order is generally alphabetical. Thus both finding a tag by alphabet and by popularity is possible. Selecting a single tag within a tag cloud will generally lead to a collection of items that are associated with that tag. (This is exactly how our research tag cloud works.)
Note: you can show or hide the tag cloud by clicking on the "show/hide research tag cloud" link directly above it.

SEARCH BY TAGS: Use either the tag cloud or the search by tag function to search all content by tags. Keywords and other filters do not function when using tags; all articles that have been tagged with the selected word(s) will result, so don't enter any words in the search box. The tag cloud will hide itself automatically when search results are displayed. Show or hide the tag cloud by clicking on the "show/hide research tag cloud" link directly above it. Each article published since 2004 has been tagged with the most relevant keywords for that article. Archived articles from 2003 and earlier will not appear in the tag search.

SEARCH USING FILTERS: Filter the content by topic, region, segment and publication type. Either leave the search box blank and filter the content based on what you are searching for, or enter a keyword or combination of keywords and then filter. Click on the green "FILTER BY ..." bars to the left (underneath the search form) to open and close the filter options.

KEYWORD SEARCHING - FULL TEXT AND BY TITLES: You can search the content using a full text search, which will search every word of every publication in the library. Or, you can search for keywords that appear in the publication titles. These searches can also be filtered by topic, region, segment and publication type. The minimum word length for keyword searches is three characters. To search for multiple keywords, separate them by a space, i.e. "airlines GDS". By default this will find anything containing "airlines" OR "GDS". To require "airlines" AND "GDS", precede each word by a "+", i.e. "+airlines +GDS".

Additional Examples

  • 'apple banana'

Find rows that contain at least one of the two words.

  • '+apple +juice'

Find rows that contain both words.

  • '+apple macintosh'

Find rows that contain the word 'apple', but rank rows higher if they also contain 'macintosh'.

  • '+apple -macintosh'

Find rows that contain the word 'apple' but not 'macintosh'.

  • '+apple ~macintosh'

Find rows that contain the word 'apple', but if the row also contains the word 'macintosh', rate it lower than if row does not. This is 'softer' than a search for '+apple -macintosh', for which the presence of 'macintosh' causes the row not to be returned at all.

  • '+apple +(>turnover <strudel)'

Find rows that contain the words 'apple' and 'turnover', or 'apple' and 'strudel' (in any order), but rank 'apple turnover' higher than 'apple strudel'.

  • 'apple*'

Find rows that contain words such as 'apple', 'apples', 'applesauce', or 'applet'.

  • ' "some words" '

Find rows that contain the exact phrase 'some words' (for example, rows that contain 'some words of wisdom' but not 'some noise words'). Note that the ' " ' characters that enclose the phrase are operator characters that delimit the phrase. They are not the quotes that enclose the search string itself.

ACTIVE AND ARCHIVED CONTENT: All PhoCusWright content published since 2005 is considered "active content". This content is tagged and article abstracts provide a brief overview for subscribers and guests. PhoCusWright content published between 2000 and 2004 is considered "archived content". This content is included in the library and is searchable using filters for both full text and title searches. Archived articles have not been tagged and most do not have article abstracts.
