Still Room to Grow in Brazil, Despite Economic Headwinds

Brazil presents significant opportunity for companies willing and able to overcome the challenges of the country's increasingly competitive online travel market, according to a new Global Edition report. Although economic conditions have recently deteriorated, online travel penetration is still quite low, giving suppliers and online travel agencies (OTAs) room to grow their digital footprint, both on the leisure and business travel side.

"Travel management companies (TMCs) control much of Brazil's lucrative business travel market," says Phocuswright's director, research, Luke Bujarski. "However, relationships between suppliers and TMCs have become strained as airlines and hotel chains actively look to rein in distribution costs via direct online sales and OTAs."

On the leisure side of the market, tour operators and traditional travel agencies are still popular with Brazilian leisure travelers, but they lag on the innovation front. As other players improve their online platforms, they will continue the battle against consolidation and alternative booking options such as OTAs and peer-to-peer accommodations.

Phocuswright's Brazil Online Travel Overview Second Edition covers Brazilian travel market dynamics and contains detailed information on key segments, economic factors and distribution trends.
